Firstly please let us apologise for
the delay in sending a news letter, but work with the Appeal moves at quite
a rapid rate and is sometimes difficult to keep up with what’s has been
going on.
Following the completion of the new
house for the girls last December we have moved on to other projects. You
may remember in our last news letter we mentioned that Pastor Ovi’s old
minibus had seen better days, our intention was to donate our minibus to the
Church in Galati, but due to numerous rules and regulations this was not
possible. Following our letter we were thrilled to receive an anonymous
donation, which enabled us to purchase two nine-seater minibuses to help
with the outreach work from Holy Trinity Galati. This now enables more teams
of people to work around the surrounding villages of Galati along with
Luncvitia, which is across the other side of the Danube River.
Ben and Danny’s short visit to
Guernsey in February was very successful and it allowed time to give a
presentation of their work with the street children and what their plans are
for the future. We are also pleased to tell you that Ben, Estera, Danny and
Christina will be in the UK and Ireland at the end of August so we hope to
bring them to Guernsey for a very short visit at the beginning of September.
Bethesda and the Day Centre continue
to thrive at an extremely busy pace. Just recently they have been
celebrating another wedding of one of the boys from Bethesda, however with
the high moments come the difficult times. At present four members of the
staff are leaving and moving to Western Europe, this is obviously causing
extra strain on the team as this causes more work with fewer people. A more
serious incident happened when two girls from Ben’s Bible study group were
sexually abused as they returned home from a Church meeting. As you can
imagine this has given Ben and Estera a very stressful and difficult period
and would therefore value your prayers.
On a more positive note we received
the second shipment of Handmade Romanian Glass ware, which we put on sale at
Floral Guernsey. We had a tremendous show and raised £5,000 by the end of
the event, this money will now be sent to The Bethesda Foundation to assist
with the ongoing projects.
If you have not yet had a chance to
view the glass, all is not lost as we hope to arrange an open house at Cobo
(date to be confirmed) where you will be able to see the complete range of
over 300 different items to choose from. We will sell at the North Show and
to Jersey in November to their Home and Life Style show where we hope to be
as successful as the Guernsey event last year. The proceeds of these sales
will be used to Finance the following projects: -
1. Driving Lessons for 3 of the
bigger boys so they can assist with the day to day running of the Home. $200
for each boy.
2. Refurbishing 7 rooms in the attic
of the boy’s home and also the fellowship room, total cost of $1500
3. Summer Camps for the Boys and the
Girls $30 per child
4. Improving the football playground
$200
5. Dental Treatment for each child
$20 per child for one year
6. A new commercial cooker for the
kitchen at Bethesda $1,900
7. New Windows for the Boys Home.
When the house was constructed the windows were donated from Germany but
were quite old, they are wooden and many of them do not close properly so
they loose a lot of heat in the winter. There are 44 windows at $185 per
unit.
8. A new minibus for transporting
the children at the Boys Home, the Girls House and at the Day Centre total
cost $12,000
As you can see we have our work cut
out, however, if you would like to undertake some fund raising or you would
like to sponsor any of these projects we would of course be delighted!!
Many thanks for your continued
support.
All our best wishes
Stuart & Wendy Wilson
